Australia is a country with a history of victimization and of ample evidence of juxtaposition of the victim and offender roles.
Abstract
Whilst it has been rather slow in moving into the area of victimology -- simply because crime prevention studies have only been established in recent years, it has been very effective in adapting these studies to its own circumstances, and it is one of the few federal countries which have already succeeded in conducting nationwide victimization services. The many questions for the future of victimology in Australia will be recognized as questions which other countries are equally facing -- questions of development, scope, definition and precision. The existence of the Australian Institute of Criminology, a federal interstate body operating as a statutory authority, is unique and assures Australia of a very firm footing in the rise and progress of victimological studies in the future.
