This study analyzed data on crime victims in general, victims of family violence, and victims of violence perpetrated by a husband or male intimate partner in the region of Galicia, Spain, for the years 2004-2006.
Abstract
The findings show an increasing trend in the number of victims to a peak in 2005, after which the number stabilized. Women were the most victimized. Compared to other regions in Spain during this period, however, Galicia was among the regions with the least number of family-violence offenses. Suicides in Galicia declined during this period. The study was conducted in order to identify victim profiles for the purpose of designing effective crime control policies that target factors underlying particular crimes. Data were obtained from the Statistical Yearbook of the Ministry of Interior, population data published by the National Institute of Statistics, and the Institute of Galician Statistics. 10 tables, 40 figures, and 109 notes
