This study examines the nature of rape, its consequences for victims, and the need for rape victim services.
Abstract
The author first examines the dual social attitudes concerning sexual assault. It refers to the data and facts and addresses the conceptual questions of rape that emphasize the violent rather than the sexual element of it. The study outlines the primary characteristics of the rape trauma syndrome as the consequence of rape. In a discussion of victims assistance, the author recommends the establishment and operation of a special independent victim's support organization. (Publisher abstract modified)
