This is a research-based resource for professionals treating women who were sexually abused by female perpetrators.
Abstract
The purposes of the book are to enrich and augment the mental health professional’s knowledge of the existence of female molesters and adult female survivors of sexual abuse; to understand and address the myths and the realities of this phenomenon; and to present case studies of survivors. The book is divided into nine chapters: (1) Abusers and Survivors (definitions, effects and symptomatology of sexual abuse); (2) Dissociative Identity Disorder; (3) Memory; (4) Munchausen-by-Proxy Syndrome; (5) Self-Injury (including borderline personality disorder and self-injury); (6) Survivors’ Sexuality and Identity Development; (7) Female Perpetrators (appearance versus reality, etiology and motivations); (8) Verbal Treatment Modalities: Giving Voice to the Trauma; and (9) Nonverbal Treatment Modalities: Giving Form to the Trauma.
