THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE ACTIVITIES OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE FINGERPRINT SECTION AND PAYS PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE OPERATION TO THE UNIT'S AMPEX VIDEOFILE SEMI-AUTOMATED FINGERPRINT SEARCHING COMPUTER.
Abstract
COMPARISONS ARE MADE BETWEEN THE SPEED OF RETRIEVAL, STORAGE CAPACITY, AND MANPOWER REQUIREMENTS OF THE PRE AND POST COMPUTER USE PERIODS. THIS PARTICULAR COMPUTER HAS THE ABILITY TO AUTOMATICALLY SCAN DATA RECORDS TO ELIMINATE ALL PRINTS OUTSIDE OF A PARTICULAR SEARCH PARAMETER, SUCH AS PLUS OR MINUS 2 RIDGE COUNTS. THE CANDIDATE PRINTS ARE THEN MANUALLY REVIEWED ON CATHODE RAY TUBE (CTR) DISPLAYS BY TRAINED CLASSIFIERS.
