Abstract
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ADMISSION OF VIDEOTAPE AS EVIDENCE -- RELEVANCY, IDENTIFICATION OF SUBJECT MATTER SHOWN, ACCURACY, QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PHOTOGRAPHER, TYPE AND QUALITY OF EQUIPMENT, CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH THE TAPE IS MADE, EXPLANATIONS OF ANY DISTORTIONS IN THE TAPE AND OF ANY CHANGES IN NARRATOR OR PHOTOGRAPHER, AND CONTINUOUS CUSTODY OF THE VIDEOTAPE -- ARE DISCUSSED. GUIDELINES FOR ACHIEVING IMAGE PROGRESSION (OVERALL SCENE, TO MEDIUM SHOT, TO CLOSE-UP OF CRIME SCENE OR SUBJECT MATTER) ARE OFFERED. EXAMPLES OF APPLICATIONS OF VIDEOTAPING IN CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS ARE DESCRIBED, AND THE ADVANTAGES OF VIDEOTAPE OVER STILL PHOTOGRAPHY ARE NOTED. STEP-BY-STEP GUIDELINES FOR USING VIDEOTAPE EQUIPMENT TO RECORD EVIDENCE OF BURGLARIES ARE DIRECTED TO INDUSTRIAL SECURITY INVESTIGATORS.
