CITIZEN CRIME PATROLS IN A PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT AND IN AN ETHNIC NEIGHBORHOOD ARE DESCRIBED.
Abstract
THE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT PATROL MAKES USE OF LEAA FUNDS TO RETAIN AND EQUIP FOURTEEN PATROLMEN. ALTHOUGH THEY DO NOT CARRY GUNS, RESIDENTS FEEL MORE SECURE WHEN THEY ARE AROUND. THE OTHER PATROL IS ORGANIZED BY THE JEWISH DEFENSE LEAGUE. IT CONSISTS OF WELL-TRAINED, DEDICATED, UNPAID PATROLLERS.
