Abstract
The first section documents rape and murder rates, detailing the incidence of rape and marital rape, reporting and prosecution of rape, murder of women by partners, and serial murders of women. In the second section, the fact sheet covers domestic violence, with statistics detailing the incidence of woman abuse, the relationship between woman abuse and the health care system, the criminal justice response to woman abuse, and State laws regarding woman abuse. The fact sheet presents statistics on violence against young women and girls, violence against women worldwide, and sexual harassment in the U.S. The next section discusses the long-term psychological harm suffered by abused women. Finally, the fact sheet summarizes proposed Federal legislation and legislation passed in the period between 1992-1993 dealing with these issues. 79 references
