AN ORGANIC APPROACH TO THE TREATMENT OF EMOTIONALLY VIOLENT PEOPLE THROUGH CHEMOTHERAPY AND SURGERY.
Abstract
THIS BOOK IS CONCERNED WITH THE VIOLENT INDIVIDUAL AND THE FUNCTION OF HIS BRAIN. THE AUTHORS DO NOT CLAIM THAT ALL VIOLENT INDIVIDUALS HAVE AN ABNORMALLY FUNCTIONING BRAIN, BUT THEY DO POINT OUT HOW ESSENTIAL IT IS TO DISCOVER THOSE WHO ARE SO AFFLICTED, SINCE THEIR BRAIN DYSFUNCTION MAY BE TREATED AND THEIR VIOLENT ACTIVITIES PREVENTED. MOST OF THE PATIENTS WITH BRAIN DISEASE AND ASSOCATED VIOLENT BEHAVIOR CAN BE TREATED WITH ANTICONVULSANT OR ATARACTIC DRUGS; ONLY A SMALL PERCENTAGE ACTUALLY REQUIRES SURGERY. A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF SUCH PATIENTS APPEARS IN THE BOOK BECAUSE THE PATIENTS CONTRIBUTE TO A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE RELATION OF BRAIN DISEASE TO ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR, WHICH IN TURN POINTS THE WAY TO BETTER DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC METHODS. THE BOOK REVIEWS THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF THOSE PARTS OF THE BRAIN THAT GOVERN EMOTIONAL BEHAVIOR AND DESCRIBES THE INHERITED AND ACQUIRED FORMS OF BRAIN DISEASE WHICH MAY DISRUPT THE REGULATORY MECHANISMS OF THE EMOTIONAL BRAIN. THERE IS A BIBLIOGRAPHY. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
