AFTER ANALYZING THE CHARACTERISTICS AND CAUSES OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY, A SYSTEM FOR REDUCTION OF DELINQUENCY THROUGH REDUCTION OF SOCIETAL AND INSTITUTIONAL VIOLENCE IS PROPOSED.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR CHARACTERIZES THE PRESENT GENERATION OF JUVENILE DELINQUENTS AS A PHENOMENON WHICH IS INTERNATIONAL AND VIOLENT. HE IDENTIFIES THREE FEATURES OF MODERN VIOLENCE: IT IS OFTEN UNDERTAKEN FOR MATERIAL GAIN. IT OCCURS WITHOUT REGARD TO WHO IS INJURED; AND IT MAY EXIST FOR ITS OWN SAKE (VIOLENCE FOR THE SAKE OF VIOLENCE). THE AUTHOR EXAMINES THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE 'SUBCULTURE OF VIOLENCE', AND DIFFERENTIATES BETWEEN VIOLENCE AND AGGRESSION. THE VARIOUS TYPES OF VIOLENCE ARE ALSO EXAMINED, INCLUDING AGGRESSIVE VIOLENCE, SUBVERSIVE VIOLENCE, REPRESSIVE VIOLENCE, INDIVIDUAL VIOLENCE, AND GROUP OR INSTITUTIONAL VIOLENCE. HE DETAILS HOW THESE ASPECTS OF VIOLENCE ARE INCREASINGLY MANIFESTED IN THE PERSONAL, SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, AND INSTITUTIONAL ASPECTS OF THE WORLD TODAY, CREATING A 'SUBCULTURE OF VIOLENCE'. HE ALSO DETAILS HOW THE SUBCULTURE OF VIOLENCE PROMOTES THE PROBLEM OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. FINALLY, HE RECOMMENDS THAT TO DECREASE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY, WE SHOULD 1) CHANNEL THE NATURAL AGGRESSION OF YOUTHS INTO MORE PRODUCTIVE ACTIONS AND 2) ELIMINATE THEIR DISCONTENT WITH 'THE SYSTEM' BY REVISING CORRECTIVE MEASURES AND ENSURING FAIR AND EQUAL TREATMENT OF JUVENILES. --IN SPANISH
