This report describes projects for the prevention and reduction of violence.
Abstract
The Australian Violence Prevention Awards scheme is a joint government initiative established in 1991 by the Prime Minister, State Premiers and Chief Ministers. The Awards were designed to encourage the public to become more involved in violence prevention and to assist governments in identifying and developing models of best practice which will reduce violence in the community. The projects described in this volume were drawn from those included in the Program between 1992 and 1995. Each entry describes one project, including details of the violence prevention strategy that it has adopted, the effectiveness of the project, its current status, its funding and staffing resources, and a contact point for further information. A number of the projects have been implemented elsewhere, a testament to their success. The entries are grouped into jurisdictions, and the indx indicates the particular emphases of each project.
