This newsletter for January - March 2015 reports on the activities and resources of the Violence Reduction Network (VRN), which coordinates the resources of the U.S. Justice Department's agencies and offices to assist local communities in reducing violence in their jurisdictions.
Abstract
The newsletter reports on the VRN team's interviews with select site representatives for the five sites in the network, so as to assess the training and technical assistance provided to the sites in the first quarter of the VRN's activities. Interviewees provided feedback on print and online resources, U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) resources, subject-matter expert assistance, and peer-to-peer assistance. On January 27 and 28, 2015. The FBI hosted an orientation meeting for the five Violent Crime Coordinators (VCC) and VRN site representatives. FBI resources dedicated to VRN are listed. The newsletter also announces that DOJ leaders are in the final stages of selecting five additional sites to join VRN in fall 2015. The 2015 VRN Summit is reported to be tentatively scheduled for September 28-30, 2015. VRN webinars on various VRN-related topics are briefly described. The "Subject-Matter Expert Spotlight", profiles Michael Roosa, Senior Policy Advisor for DOJ's Bureau of Justice Assistance, who has provided VRN sites with assistance related to criminal justice technology capabilities. VRN-related activities are highlighted for the following sites: Camden, NJ; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Oakland/Richmond, CA; and Wilmington, DE. VRN cumulative performance statistics to date are reported. They cover such activities as technical assistance/resource requests, training hours delivered, training participants, webinar overall ratings, and VRN website-page views.
