This book provides an overview and analysis, from authorities in the field, of issues of assessment, treatment, and management of violent and sexual offenders.
Abstract
Divided into three parts, this book takes a multidisciplinary approach to the assessment, treatment, and management of violent and sexual offenders, extending coverage to include the issue of stalking and domestic violence. It takes account of recent policy and legislative changes, such as the Sexual Offenses Act 2003 and the development of initiatives to manage high-risk offenders. Chapters by leading authorities in the field include a focus both on raising academic knowledge and on giving practical guidelines for the treatment and management of such offenders. The book covers the full range of risk assessment approaches, such as clinical, actuarial, and structured clinical, with detailed treatment aggression from a range of theoretical perspectives. Specific methods of assessment and their application are presented and include: use of life maps, choice chains, functional assessment, and situational assessment. Contributors to the book bear a wide range of expertise from both academic and practitioner backgrounds, and are drawn from the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and Switzerland. The book is essential for forensic psychologists and for other scholars, practitioners, and policymakers concerned with these types of offenders. It should help to reduce the prevalence and incidence of these troubling social problems.
