Abstract
Two papers present opposing views regarding whether popular song lyrics encourage aggressive behavior in children. One paper targets the negative influence of "gangsta rap," in its glorification of violence and aggression. Children's absorption with this music is believed to influence their attitudes and behavior. The second paper argues that there is no conclusive evidence that the type of music to which children and youth listen exerts a significant influence on their behavior. This lack of evidence should preclude any effort to censor music lyrics. Two other papers present opposing views on whether violence portrayed on television contributes to violent behavior in children. Other authors present contrasting arguments regarding whether violent video games cause aggressive behavior in children. Two papers present opposing arguments on whether easy access to guns contributes to violent behavior in children. Finally, papers present contrasting views on whether dysfunctional families are the root cause of violent behavior in children. A 28-item bibliography and a subject index
