STATISTICS ON THE CASELOADS OF JUVENILE PROBATION DEPARTMENTS AND COURT SERVICE UNITS IN VIRGINIA FOR FISCAL YEAR 1977 ARE PRESENTED AND REVIEWED.
Abstract
THE TABLES AND GRAPHS COVER INTAKE ACTIVITIES, TRANSFER REPORTS (USED TO DETERMINE WHETHER A YOUTH SHOULD APPEAR IN ADULT COURT), SOCIAL HISTORY REPORTS (USED BY JUVENILE COURT JUDGES), PROBATION/SUPERVISION CASES, AFTERCARE SUPERVISION CASES, AND CASES IN WHICH YOUTHS ARE COMMITTED TO THE DIRECT CARE OF THE STATE. THE STATISTICS ARE BROKEN DOWN BY REGION, DISTRICT, AND CITY/COUNTY. THE BRIEF NARRATIVE REVIEW POINTS OUT REGIONAL DIFFERENCES AND COMPARISONS WITH STATISTICS FOR 1976. THE TIDEWATER REGION ACCOUNTED FOR THE LARGEST NUMBER OF INTAKE CASES, TRANSFER AND SOCIAL HISTORY REPORTS, DIRECT CARE CASES, AND AFTERCARE SUPERVISION CASES. THE RICHMOND AREA HAD THE LARGEST NUMBER OF PROBATION/SUPERVISION CASES. DEFINITIONS OF TERMS USED IN THE REPORT AND A COPY OF THE FORM USED TO COLLECT COURT SERVICE UNIT DATA ARE APPENDED. (LKM)
