A REFERENCE SOURCE, DIRECTED AT VIRGINIA'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES, BRIEFLY DESCRIBES SELECTED GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS, ALONG WITH SUMMARIES OF EXEMPLARY PROJECTS, PRESCRIPTIVE PACKAGES, AND DISCRETIONARY GRANT PROGRAMS.
Abstract
THIS MANUAL WAS DESIGNED TO ENABLE PERSONNEL IN VIRGINIA'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES TO BE AWARE OF EXISTING FEDERAL TECHNICAL AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. SUMMARIES ARE PRESENTED FOR EACH EXEMPLARY PROJECT AND PRESCRIPTIVE PACKAGE, ALONG WITH THE APPROPRIATE DIVISION OF JUSTICE AND CRIME PREVENTION LIBRARY CALL NUMBER. EACH DISCRETIONARY GRANT PROGRAM ENTRY INCLUDES A SUMMARY, THE NAME AND PHONE NUMBER OF THE CONTACT OFFICER IN CHARGE OF THE PROGRAM, AND THE PROJECT'S DEADLINE AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS. THE MATERIALS ARE DIVIDED INTO SIX CATEGORIES: (1) ADJUDICATION PROGRAMS, INCLUDING DEFENDER SERVICES, INFORMATION SYSTEMS, PRE- AND POSTTRIAL DIVERSION AND TREATMENT, AND TRAINING AND MISCELLANEOUS PROGRAMS; (2) COMMUNITY AND VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS RELATING TO CRIME PREVENTION, DIVERSION AND TREATMENT, AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE; (3) CORRECTIONS PROGRAMS CONCERNING GRIEVANCE RESOLUTION, JOB TRAINING, WORK AND EDUCATIONAL RELEASE, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH, AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE; (4) JUVENILE PROGRAMS, REGARDING COUNSELING, TREATMENT AND DIVERSION, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, AND YOUTH CORRECTIONAL PROGRAMS; (5) POLICE AND PROSECUTION PROGRAMS, INVOLVING COMMUNITY RELATIONS, CRIME PREVENTION, INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS, INVESTIGATION AND PROSECUTION, PATROL, SUBSTANCE ABUSE, AND TRAINING; AND (6) SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROGRAMS IN THE AREAS OF DIVERSION, TREATMENT, AND NARCOTICS INVESTIGATION.
