THIS SURVEY OF 1,000 RANDOMLY SELECTED VIRGINIANS WAS UNDERTAKEN TO ASCERTAIN ACTUAL AND PERCEIVED CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROBLEMS AND TO ESTIMATE PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR EXISTING AND ANTICIPATED PROGRAMS.
Abstract
THE TOPICS EXPLORED IN THIS STUDY INCLUDE THE RELATIVE PRIORITY ASSIGNED BY VIRGINIANS TO OTHER, NON-CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROBLEMS; FAMILIARITY WITH THE STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AND WHETHER THE DEGREE OF FAMILARITY IS RELATED TO THEIR APPRAISAL OF PROBLEMS; PRIORITIES (IN TERMS OF TAX DOLLARS) OF SPECIFIC CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMS; PUBLIC PRIORITIES TOWARDS THE REDUCTION OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF CRIME; AND AN APPRAISAL OF EXISTING PROGRAMS.
