The Committee on Technology (COT), a statewide advisory group to the Arizona Judicial Council and the Arizona Supreme Court, met in March 1993 to discuss the application of technology to the Arizona court system through the year 2004.
Abstract
Information affecting State courts was collected and analyzed, trends and court organizational issues were scrutinized and discussed, and technology plans of other States were researched. The COT employed an open-ended matrix to match court functions with technologies. Twelve court functional areas were defined, and nine information technologies were structured to encompass current and future technologies. The 12 court functional areas included records maintenance, communications, case management, courtroom activities, business management, education, probation, judicial enforcement, jury management, facilities management, juvenile detention, and appeals. The nine information technologies involved computer data, office automation, electronic and telecommunications data, video, interactive voice response, electronic surveillance, identification technologies, artificial intelligence and expert systems, and "new wave" systems. Ways of funding the implementation of advanced court technologies in Arizona are examined. 23 references, 3 tables, and 2 figures
