A 1988 conference sponsored by Family and Corrections Network brought nearly 300 people from the United States and Canada together to examine program and policy issues relating to offenders, their families, and corrections.
Abstract
Participants heard inspirational messages, research analyses, and descriptions of specific programs and discussed ways to strengthen the family ties of offenders. Individual workshops provided an overview of the services that New York State provides to prisoners and their families; the family services provided by a private agency, the Salvation Army, in Ottawa, Canada; and a future agenda for work related to the family and corrections. Other sessions focused on prison visiting, parenting issues, and the problems faced by women who maintain relationships with men who are in prison. Policy recommendations from the First National Leadership Conference on Families of Adult Offenders, held in 1986, are attached. Tables and figures
