THE PLANNING, IMPLEMENTATION, AND OPERATIONS OF A FLORIDA PROGRAM WHICH PLACES JUVENILE STATUS OFFENDERS IN VOLUNTEER HOMES, RATHER THAN LOCKING THEM UP IN DETENTION CENTERS, IS DESCRIBED.
Abstract
THE PROJECT IS AN EXPANSION OF A PILOT PROJECT IN TAMPA. IT WAS FOUND THAT TO INSURE IMMEDIATE PLACEMENT, THREE HOMES WERE NEEDED FOR EACH POTENTIAL PLACEMENT. AN AVERAGE OF EIGHT HOURS WERE SPENT PER HOME IN 'SELLING' THE VOLUNTEER PRORAM, PERFORMING BACKGROUND CHECKS, AND PROVIDING ORIENTATION TO THE FAMILY. THE COST OF ADMINISTERING THE PROGRAM WORKED OUT TO ABOUT $4.75 PER CHILD PER DAY....PLO
