SUMMARY DESCRIPTION AND EVALUATION OF HENNEPIN COUNTY'S (MINN.) VOLUNTEER SUPPORTIVE SERVICES PROJECT WHICH USES VOLUNTEERS TO CONDUCT AND PRESENT JUVENILE PREDISPOSITION REPORTS AND TO PROVIDE JUVENILE INTAKE SERVICES.
Abstract
THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE VOLUNTEER SELECTION CRITERIA, THE TRAINING AND SUPERVISION OF VOLUNTEERS, AND THE CHARACTISTICS OF A TYPICAL GROUP OF 17 VOLUNTERRS. REPORTING ON THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF THE VOLUNTEERS' SERVICES, AS WELL AS THEIR EFFECT ON CLIENTS, STAFF AND COMMUNITY, THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT THIS PROGRAM IS GETTING THE EFFECTIVE, BENEFICIAL USE OF ITS VOLUNTEERS. SIGNIFICANT MANAGEMENT AIDS TO EFFECTIVE USE OF VOLUNTEERS ARE CLEARLY DIFFERENTIATING ROLE FUNCTIONS, PROVIDING MANAGEMENT TRAINING TO PROFESSIONAL STAFF, AND NEGOTIATING WORKING CONTRACTS BETWEEN PROBATION OFFICER AND VOLUNTEER.
