INMATE BACKGROUNDS, POST-RELEASE BEHAVIOR, AND FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH RECIDIVISM FROM A SAMPLE OF A NEW ZEALAND MALE BORSTAL POPULATIONS
Abstract
COMMENTS ON THE INMATES' HISTORY OF OFFENDING AND RECONVICTION ARE SUMMARIZED ALONG WITH STATISTICAL INFORMATION ON FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH RECONVICTION AND THOSE NOT SIGNIFICANTLY ASSOCIATED WITH RECIDIVISM. THE AUTHORS ANALYZE THE MALE BORSTAL POPULATION IN TERMS OF VARIABLES SUCH AS ETHNICITY, FAMILY STRUCTURE, FAMILY ATTITUDES, EDUCATION, ILLNESS, INTELLIGENCE, AND PREVIOUS WORK RECORD. INFORMATION ON PRE-RELEASE AND PROBATION TERMINATION REPORTS IS PRESENTED. GENERAL CONCLUSIONS AS WELL AS RESEARCH PROBLEMS AND LIMITATIONS ARE CITED.
