A DECEMBER, 1972, REPORT ON ASSISTANCE RENDERED TO THE WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON POLICE AND SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENTS IN DEVELOPING A RECORDS SYSTEM AND ESTABLISHING A DATA COLLECTION SYSTEM.
Abstract
WALLA WALLA HAS A POPULATION OF ABOUT 24000 PERSONS AND POLICE DEPARTMENT COMPRISED OF 45 PERSONS. TIME DID NOT PERMIT CONSIDERATION OF THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT REQUIREMENTS. THE CONSULTANT INTERVIEWED SEVERAL DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL AND STUDIED THE EXISTING RECORDS SYSTEM IN ORDER TO FORMULATE RECOMMENDATIONS. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT NEW REPORT FORMATS, ACCOMPANYING THIS REPORT AS ATTACHMENTS, BE ADOPTED FOR COMPLAINT REPORTS, INVESTIGATION REPORTS, POLICE SERVICE REPORTS, AND FIELD STATUS REPORTS. ALSO RECOMMENDED WERE THE CONSOLIDATION OF REPORTS INTO OFFENDER FOLDERS, EXPANSION OF THE GENERAL INDEX FILE, MICROFILMING OF RETIRED RECORDS, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A STATISTICAL EVALUATION PROGRAM APPROPRIATE TO MANAGEMENT NEEDS.
