FIVE MAJOR CATEGORIES OF ACTIVITIES ARE ENCOMPASSED IN THIS ANNUAL REPORT, INCLUDING SUPERVISION AND SERVICES FOR OFFENDERS, SERVICE TO THE COURTS, COMMUNITY SERVICE, JAIL AND RESIDENTIAL SERVICES, AND PARTICIPATION IN CORRECTIONS ADVISORY BOARD PLANNING. SUPERVISION OF OFFENDERS FOR 1978 INVOLVED 900 ADULT MEN AND WOMEN SENTENCED TO PROBATION BY THE WASHINGTON COUNTY COURTS, 50 OFFENDERS SENTENCED TO THE WASHINGTON COUNTY JAIL AS A CONDITION OF PROBATION, AND 80 INDIVIDUALS RETURNING TO THE COUNTY ON PAROLE FROM THE STATE CORRECTIONS INSTITUTIONS. COURT SERVICE INVOLVED PREPARATION OF 300 PRESENTENCE REPORTS ON OFFENDERS AWAITING SENTENCING, REPORTS ON EARLY RELEASE REQUESTS BY INMATES, AND SUBMISSION OF OVER 500 REPORTS OF ADHERENCE TO, OR VIOLATION OF, PROBATION CONDITIONS. RECOMMENDATIONS WERE MADE TO THE COURT TO ORDER OFFENDERS TO PAY RESTITUTION FOR CRIMES; IN 1978, THE COURTS ORDERED PAYMENT TO 513 VICTIMS OF $196,000. IN ADDITION, COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS MONITORED THE COLLECTION OF THE BULK OF THESE MONIES. SUPERVISION, COUNSELING, JOB PLACEMENT, AND LIFE SKILL TRAINING FOR 38 OFFENDERS OF THE PORTLAND WOMEN'S WORK RELEASE CENTER WERE PROVIDED. FINALLY, COUNTY CONTROL AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT INCLUDED PLANNING AND ADVISORY ACTIVITIES IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CORRECTIONS ADVISORY BOARD.
