SUGGESTED RULES AND FORMS FOR APPELLATE PROCEDURE, COVERING SUCH AREAS AS THE SCOPE OF REVIEW, PARTIES, ACCEPTANCE OF REVIEW, THE RECORD ON REVIEW, ORAL ARGUMENTS ON MERITS, AND SUPREME COURT REVIEW.
Abstract
THESE RULES WERE DRAFTED BY A TASK FORCE APPOINTED BY THE WASHINGTON JUDICIAL COUNCIL. THE PRIMARY GOALS OF THESE NEW RULES WAS TO PROVIDE A FRAMEWORK WITHIN WHICH APPELLATE CASES CAN BE PROMPTLY DECIDED ON THE MERITS. OTHER GOALS OF THESE RULES WERE TO ARRANGE THE RULES IN SUCH A WAY THAT A PARTICULAR RULE CAN BE FOUND QUCKKLY; TO ELIMINATE CONFUSION BETWEEN THE COURT RULES AND DEVISIONS AND STATUTES WHICH PRESCRIBE DETAILS OF APPELLATE PROCEDURE; TO PROMOTE CLARITY IN THE WORKING; TO CONSERVE JUDGES' TIME; AND TO REDUCE OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS.
