The Washington Council on Crime and Delinquency's Board of Directors supports placing highest priority on prevention by funding services for children and families, as well as meeting the emergent needs of law enforcement, courts, and corrections.
Abstract
The agenda consists of a number of constructive ideas for improvements in four basic areas: (1) sexual offenses and other serious violence; (2) improving the funding and coordination of criminal justice; (3) new directions for juvenile corrections; and (4) addressing runaways and families in conflict. Recommendations include addressing the needs of dysfunctional families and troubled nonoffender youth by improving such needed services as substance abuse treatment and children's mental health services; expanding community-centered corrections for appropriate juvenile offenders; focusing on the rights and services for crime victims, witnesses, and survivors; and promoting criminal justice information exchange and analysis.
