Abstract
This book was designed to explore the new and upcoming area of domestic preparedness against terrorist attacks using weapons of mass destruction (WMD), such as chemical, biological, and nuclear devices. It offers responders, EMTs, paramedics, and other medical personnel of all levels of training with a reference to dealing with WMD using both basic and advanced life-support techniques. It addresses pre-hospital care for the unique injuries suffered from conventional bombings, incendiary attacks, chemical and biological agents, and nuclear devices. The references are broken down into seven sections including: (1) medical aspects of WMD; (2) pre-hospital response to WMD; (3) care of explosive and incendiary injuries; (4) care of chemical agent injuries; (5) care of biological agent illnesses; (6) care of nuclear injuries; and (7) personal protection and patient decontamination. Appendices are also included covering medications, NBC protection procedures, and field amputations.
