The Israeli police service has developed a web site to provide information about police organization and services and to enable the public to contact the police.
Abstract
The initial plan for the web site was to cover four areas: (1) general information about the police mission, functions, goals, departments, and working methods; (2) basic information on what citizens should do in certain situations to obtain police services and assistance; (3) information needed from the public; and (4) statistics and information about crime and neighborhood activities. Subsequent work on web site development has added other features. The web site has been designed to allow the public to provide intelligence and investigative information anonymously to the police and to make complaints against police officers. Other features created for the web site include a suggestion box, a feedback form, a section on traffic ticket appeals and queries, news bulletins and community news flashes, a section on missing and wanted persons, and recruitment advertisements. The hope is that the web site will provide the Israeli police service with an effective interface with the public. 4 figures
