Web-based technological applications for use by law enforcement agencies are outlined, including data handling, criminal history record retrieval and update, the use of messaging with the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and fingerprint card scanning.
Abstract
The applications are based on those incorporated in the Mississippi Criminal History Record System (CHRS). Data handling concepts concern web pages that contain a mixture of text and images and links relating information, archive queries and transactions, and records. Concepts associated with criminal history record retrieval and update focus on how to provide a home page for users and variations based on accessible services. A sample home page is included, and person and image query procedures are illustrated, based on Mississippi's CHRS. Concepts are also covered that pertain to prosecutor and court disposition web-based applications, NLETS and NCIC messaging and queries, and fingerprint card scanning using e-mail communications and network-connected work stations. 23 figures
