The annual report for the year ending June 30, 1977, of the Western Australia Department of Corrections discusses activities for the period and presents statistical tables relating to prisoners confined in departmental institutions and police jails during that year.
Abstract
The daily average number of prisoners confined during the year showed an increase of 124.86 over the previous year. Programs are reviewed for the correctional psychiatry branch, the treatment and training branch, and the psychology and research section. Special projects are described including vocational and trade training, the human sexuality group, the social drinking program, and an aboriginal womens group at Bandyup. Also discussed are the shiftwork program at Fremantle Prison and a correctional psychologists' seminar conducted in July, 1976. Programs conducted under the social and work welfare section are detailed, including the work release program and the community projects unit. Another section is devoted to an examination of the education services section, which encompasses both staff training and inmate education. Descriptions of each correctional facility provide data on accommodations, abluation facilities, dining facilities, trade training facilities, education facilities, community projects, recreation, other inmate groups, and escorts. In addition, the name of the superintendent, the location of the facility and when it was established, the number of staff, the type of inmates held, average population, and the facility's size are listed. Tables, a map, and a chart are supplied.
