DISCUSSION OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE KIND OF OFFENSE, THE PERPETRATOR AND THE VICTIM.
Abstract
SOME CRIMES, SUCH AS CAR OR PROPERTY THEFT, ARE ENCOURAGED OR PRECIPITATED BY CARELESS OWNER BEHAVIOR. PREVENTION OF THESE LOSSES CAN ONLY BE ACHIEVED BY INCREASED CITIZEN AWARENESS. CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON ARE SOMETIMES THE RESULT OF A LONGSTANDING OR INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE VICTIM AND OFFENDER. IN THESE CASES, PREVENTION IS MORE COMPLEX AND DIFFICULT. THERE MAY BE SOME VALUE, IN EITHER TYPE OF CRIME, IN ASSURING THAT THE VICTIM IS COMPENSATED EITHER BY A PUBLIC FUND OR OFFENDER RESTITUTION.
