THE NATURE AND CAUSES OF THE GROWING PROBLEM OF VIOLENCE AND VANDALISM IN THE SCHOOLS IS BRIEFLY DISCUSSED, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PREVENTING AND MANAGING SCHOOL VIOLENCE ARE OUTLINED.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR RECOMMENDS, AMONG OTHER THINGS, THAT TEACHERS PUBLICLY ADMIT THE EXTENT OF THE VIOLENCE PROBLEM, THAT SCHOOL SECURITY FROM INTRUDERS BE IMPROVED, AND THAT VIOLENCE AGAINST STUDENTS AS A TEACHING TECHNIQUE OR CONTROL DEVICE BE ELIMINATED. IT IS ALSO SUGGESTED THAT ALTERNATIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS BE DEVELOPED FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE BORED OR UNMOVED BY TRADITIONAL APPROACHES, AND THAT TRAINING ON HOW TO HANDLE AGGRESSION AND DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR BE GIVEN TO TEACHERS.
