A PARTIAL BIOGRAPHY OF A CRIMINAL LAWYER IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, THAT DISCUSSES SOME OF HIS MORE FAMOUS CASES AS WELL AS THOSE THAT ATTRACT LITTLE ATTENTION IN ORDER TO SHOW HOW THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM WORKS DAY BY DAY.
Abstract
THE RHETORICAL QUESTION EMBODIED IN THE TITLE APPARENTLY HAS LITTLE RELEVANCE TO THE SUBJECT OF THIS BOOK WHOSE SOLE PURPOSE IS TO DEFEND HIS CLIENTS AS BEST HE CAN. USUALLY HIS CLIENTS ARE GUILTY. OFTEN HE HAS TO PLEA BARGAIN. HIS PRIMARY SKILLS INVOLVE BARGAINING IN COURTHOUSE CORRIDORS. HE IS BEST KNOWN FOR HIS KNOWLEDGE OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AND THE MEN WHO MAKE IT FUNCTION, I.E., 'STREET SMARTS'.
