The future impact of the television news media on law enforcement was examined, with emphasis on methods of improving relationships between these two types of agencies as they take part in field operations.
Abstract
The 18-month research project focused on the development of a joint training program for the television news media and the police. The report presents a strategic plan outlining how law enforcement might work with the media in establishing such a program, together with a more specific transition plan that describes the crucial personnel involved, their roles and responsibilities, suggested funding sources, and a timeline for a joint training program. The analysis concludes that the crucial individuals to involve in developing the program are the police chief, deputy police chief, television news producers, the president of the police officers' association, the city attorney, the training program staff, and the police agency public information officer.
