The article discusses what has transpired in the last decade in the field of child abuse prevention and what challenges lie ahead for the next decade.
Abstract
The focus of pre-1980's efforts was on the variety of underlying causes of child abuse, and child abuse was seen as a complex problem with no one approach as the cure. The prevention efforts of the 1980's were divided among services, advocacy, public education, and public involvement. The results of these efforts are discussed in terms of public awareness, public involvement, prevention policies, services, and amount of abuse. Challenges for the next decade include doing more of the same and addressing new ideas. 7 references
