STATISTICS AND OTHER INFORMATION ARE PRESENTED TO SHOW WHY WHATCOM COUNTY (WA) NEEDS AN ADDITIONAL SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE, RAISING ITS TOTAL OF JUDGES FROM TWO TO THREE.
Abstract
THE TWO JUDGES IN WHATCOM COUNTY CURRENTLY HAVE A HIGH POPULATION TO JUDGE RATIO, AN AVERAGE TOTAL OF FILINGS PER JUDGE, AND A HIGH RATIO OF CRIMINAL FILINGS PER JUDGE WHEN COMPARED WITH OTHER COUNTIES IN THE STATE. CONSEQUENTLY, CIVIL CASES WAIT AN INORDINATELY LONG TIME BEFORE COMING TO TRIAL. FOR THESE AND OTHER REASONS THE ADDITION OF A THIRD JUDGE IS RECOMMENDED.
