A preliminary survey shows that the number of wrongful convictions in Australia for murder and other serious offenses may be considerable.
Abstract
References are made to the key elements in the criminal justice system that are important in these cases. These elements include police behavior, expert evidence, witness evidence, media response, and the trial process. Suggestions for reducing alleged problems are proposed, and the policy implications of the key elements are discussed. 2 tables, 37 references. (Author abstract modified)
