Abstract
Security procedures to follow upon leaving the house include having an ID card and a whistle, eliminating easy entry into the house, leaving no notes on the outside door indicating no one is at home, putting lights on an automatic timer, and emptying the mailbox. Personal security procedures while driving include going to a populated, public area or a police station if another car seems to be following; parking in well-lighted areas and not leaving the car until the area appears safe; and raising the hood and staying in the locked car until police arrive if the car breaks down. Personal safety while on foot can be enhanced by walking in public areas when possible and keeping one's purse close to the body. Advice on what to do if one is attacked covers self-defense measures, what to observe about the attacker, and procedures to follow after the attack. Safety procedures while in the home focus on dealing with certain types of phone calls and answering the door.
