Abstract
INFORMATION FROM THE DEPARTMENTS OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES, SEIZURE AND IMPOUNDING OF DOGS AND OTHER ANIMALS, TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES, AUXILIARY POLICE AND VOLUNTEER FIRE DIVISIONS, AS WELL AS REPORTS FROM THE EXAMINING BOARD OF STATIONARY ENGINEERS AND EXAMINING BOARD OF MOTION PICTURE OPERATORS ARE ALSO INCLUDED. DURING 1976, THE POLICE RESPONDED TO 1.1 PERCENT MORE CALLS (INCLUDING CRIMES, COMPLAINTS, SERVICES, AND AID CALLS) THAN IN 1975. THE CRIME INDEX FOR 1976 REVEALED A DECREASE OF 13.9 PERCENT FROM 16 PERCENT IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR. CRIMES AGAINST PERSONS SHOWED A 5 PERCENT DECREASE IN 1976, WHILE CRIMES AGAINST PROPERTY SHOWED AN INCREASE OF 16 PERCENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO 20 PERCENT MORE ALARMS IN 1976 THAN IN 1975.
