This study profiles alcohol, drug, and tobacco users in New Brunswick (Canada) schools.

Abstract

The Provincial School Drug Survey, a large-scale assessment of alcohol, drug, and tobacco usage among public school children, is re-examined from another angle. Only students in grades 7 through 12 enrolled in the province's public school system were surveyed. Schools were randomly selected within each school district, and then classrooms were randomly selected within each of the selected schools. Findings show that the "typical" adolescent drug user may have a "high risk" personality and is willing to experiment with a variety of chemical substances. Data revealed slight to moderate statistical relationships among the use of tobacco, alcohol, and select drugs as self-reported by the students. 13 tables, 5 references.
