REVIEWS NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN CORRECTIONS AND LISTS CORRECTIONS AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS.
Abstract
FOLLOWING AN INTRODUCTION TRACING THE ISOLATION OF CORRECTIONS IN INSTITUTIONAL SETTINGS TO COMMUNITY EFFORTS SUCH AS PROBATION AND PAROLE, THE AUTHOR HIGHLIGHTS SOME OF THE MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS IN CORRECTIONS. THE EMERGENCE OF THE COURTS AS A POSITIVE FORCE FOR CHANGE, THE NEW LEVEL OF INVOLVEMENT OF OTHER HUMAN SERVICE AGENCIES IN CORRECTIONAL MATTERS, THE AVAILABILITY OF LARGE-SCALE PUBLIC FUNDING, AND THE ENLISTMENT OF INFORMED VOLUNTEERS ARE DISCUSSED. SUGGESTIONS FOR STRENGTHENING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CORRECTIONS AND THE COMMUNITY INCLUDE INCREASED COMMUNICATIONS, CLARIFICATION OF TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INTEGRATION OF COLLABORATORS WITH PROGRAM GOALS, PROVISION OF WRITTEN CONTRACTS, AND MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE NEED FOR ON-GOING EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROGRAM INNOVATION.
