TRAINING CURRICULUM FOR A NEWLY FORMED POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS UNIT IN THE WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Abstract
HISTORY AND RECRUITMENT FOR THE UNIT ARE PRESENTED. EVALUATION INDICATED THE TRAINING WAS TOO ACADEMICALLY ORIENTED AND TOO MUCH MATERIAL WAS COVERED IN A SHORT TIME. CONCLUSIONS SHOW A GREAT AMOUNT OF SUCCESS IN THE TRAINING PROGRAM, WITH EMPHASIS ON IMPROVED POLICE COMMUNICATION WITH GHETTO DWELLERS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC, AND VARIOUS AGENCIES OF THE COMMUNITY. A LIST OF THE TRAINEES IS GIVEN ALONG WITH THEIR OCCUPATIONAL TYPES, ORGANIZATIONAL AFFILIATIONS, PROFESSIONAL RANKS AND PRIOR EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING.
