Abstract
The challenge that a vast majority of Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) is facing is ensuring that every call is routed correctly and vital information like the caller’s number and GPS location is received right along with the call. Not having this type of equipment has been cited as one of the reasons 9/11 was able to occur. Erie County Police Services in western New York has invested in getting cutting edge PSAP technology called NiceLog, which is provided by Wilmac. The technology will enable law enforcement officers to capture the ANI and GPS location information with each wireless 9-1-1, and the re-bid location data. The re-bid location data is used to retrace a sequence of events and locations. With this new technology, the county will be able to “seamlessly reconstruct incidents from all of its captured communication including its wireless 911 calls.”
