Violations of controlled dangerous substances laws and related offenses constituted the majority of crimes for which electronic surveillance was requested in 1988, according to the twelfth report submitted to the Maryland General Assembly by the State Court Administrator.
Abstract
There were 39 reports received in 1988 compared with 20 in 1987, an increase of 95 percent. The number of counties using electronic surveillance increased in 1988 by 50 percent. Baltimore City filed the greatest number of reports with 18 (46.2 percent), Montgomery County followed with 6 reports (15.4 percent), and Prince George's County with 5 reports (12.8 percent). Violations of controlled dangerous substances laws (35.9 percent) and gambling (30.8 percent) warranted the majority of requests for electronic surveillance. As a result of electronic surveillance, 271 arrests were made during the year. A detailed breakdown of each request is provided.
