The report discusses the organization, functions, and responsibilities of the Wisconsin Arson Bureau and presents statistics on fire losses and information on caseload dispositions, fatal fires, and personnel training.
Abstract
The bureau provides investigative assistance on suspected arson fires, bombings, and fatal fires to the State's fire service and local law enforcement. During 1979, the bureau received 783 complaints, an increase of 13 percent over 1978. Of these, 583 were investigated, a 2-percent increase over 1978. During the year, an experimental major case team was formed within the bureau to work on arsons involving loss of life, serious injury, or major property damage. Arson bureau territories were aligned to make more efficient use of manpower, and a performance assessment of the bureau resulted in a satisfactory or better rating. Statistical data are appended.
