The Wisconsin Department of Justice presents its 1979 annual report for the Arson Bureau of the Division of Criminal Investigations.
Abstract
The bureau's organization is briefly described, with addresses and telephone numbers for the headquarter's office. Functions and responsibilities are broken down according to those falling under fire chiefs, the State Fire Marshal, or the local law enforcement agencies. Arson Bureau operations are then summarized and analyzed according to the following categories: complaints, complaint dispositions, case dispositions, court dispositions, sentencing, motives, fatal fires, incendiary losses, geographical distribution of investigations, training, and such other accomplishments as an experimental major case team and a two-year performance assessment of the Arson Bureau. For the main categories of operations, statistical data are presented. Additional tables represent the number and costs of arsons known to law enforcement agencies in 1979 as opposed to 1978, with the number and costs of arsons broken down according to various population centers in separate tables. Finally, fire loss statistics are presented according to type of property and causes of fire.
