DATED AUGUST 30, 1973, THIS REPORT PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF A SURVEY UNDERTAKEN TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF FUNCTIONALLY CONSOLIDATING SOME POLICE SERVICES BETWEEN VARIOUS WOOD COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND THE SHERIFF.
Abstract
POLICE DEPARTMENTS IN WOOD COUNTY RANGE FROM VERY SMALL (PITTSVILLE, WITH 1 CONSTABLE) TO MEDIUM-SIZED (WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WITH 41 OFFICERS). THE CONSULTANT CONDUCTING THIS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE EFFORT FOUND THAT SEVERAL SUPPORTIVE POLICE ACTIVITIES USUALLY REFERRED TO AS STAFF SERVICES COULD BE PERFORMED ON A COUNTYWIDE BASIS. THE POSSIBILITIES FOR CONSOLIDATION ARE EXAMINED FOR EACH OF THE SERVICES. THOSE AREAS RECOMMENDED FOR CONSOLIDATION INCLUDED COMMUNICATIONS, RECORDS, TRAINING, IDENTIFICATION SERVICES, AND CENTRALIZED PURCHASING. IN ADDITION, THE POSSIBILITY OF CONSOLIDATING RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION ACTIVITIES IS EXAMINED.
