PROCEDURES ARE PRESENTED THAT POLICE OFFICERS CAN TAKE TO IMPROVE THE DEGREE OF COOPERATION FROM WITNESSES AND TO HELP ENSURE THEIR APPEARANCE IN COURT OR THE POLICE STATION.
Abstract
ACTIONS THAT POLICE SHOULD TAKE TO MAXIMIZE WITNESS COOPERATION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: BE FIRM BUT POLITE; SHOW INTEREST AND CONCERN RATHER THAN MERELY 'GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS'; WHEN NECESSARY, 'STOP' A WITNESS TO OBTAIN IDENTIFICATION; AND ALWAYS OBTAIN ACCURATE IDENTIFICATION FROM WITNESSES. MORE SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS ELABORATE ON THESE POINTS. THIS VIDEOTAPE CONSISTS OF AUDIO EXPLANATIONS OF THESE PROCEDURES AS THEY ARE LISTED SEQUENTIALLY.
