THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS THAT THE ASSIGNMENT OF WOMEN POLICE OFFICERS TO FIELD TRAINING IN TWO-MAN PATROL CARS HAS PREVENTED DESTRUCTION OF NATURAL ROOKIE EAGERNESS AND INCREASED VETERAN OFFICER ENTHUSIASM.
Abstract
HIS THEORY IS THAT THE DESIRE ON THE PART OF VETERAN MALE OFFICERS TO IMPRESS FEMALE PARTNERS BY PRESENTING THEM WITH THE TYPE OF OFFICER IMAGE THAT THEY THINK THE WOMEN WANT TO SEE (HARDWORKING, CONCERNED, EFFICIENT, BRAVE, COURTEOUS, REVERENT, ETC.) CAUSES THEM TO BECOME MORE PRODUCTIVE AND ENTHUSIASTIC OFFICERS. THIS SITUATION IS ALSO SEEN AS PROMOTING POSITIVE POLICE WORK ATTITUDES SINCE IT KEEPS ROOKIES FROM EMULATING THE 'LAISSEZ-FAIRE' ATTITUDES PREVALENT AMONG VETERAN OFFICERS.
