AN EXAMINATION OF THE WORK BEHAVIOR OF A SAMPLE OF 42 NEW ZEALAND EX-OFFENDERS AS COMPARED TO A GROUP OF NON-CRIMINAL CONTROLS, BASED ON A SYSTEM OF EMPLOYEEBASED WORK BEHAVIOR INDEXES.
Abstract
A 'TOTAL WORK BEHAVIOUR' RATING WAS DERIVED FOR EACH OFFENDER AND NON-OFFENDER SUBJECT BY SUMMING EMPLOYERS RATINGS ON EACH OF THE 11 WORK-BEHAVIOUR VARIABLES. ALTHOUGH THE NON-OFFENDERS RECEIVED SLIGHTLY HIGHER RATINGS THAN THE OFFENDERS THE DIFFERENCE IS NEGLIGIBLE. THE DATA SUGGEST THAT IF EMPLOYERS TAKE MORE RISKS IN EMPLOYING OFFENDERS NEGATIVE EXPECTATIONS ARE NOT LIKELY TO BE FULFILLED. THIS CONCLUSION IS REINFORCED BY THE FACT EMPLOYERS PARTICIPATING IN THE STUDY WERE NOT ATYPICAL; THEY WERE NOT 'KNOWN' TO BE FAVOURABLY DISPOSED TOWARD OFFENDERS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
